My cholesterol was 64. I thought this extremly low for a person who now eats all she wants of everything. I actually ate 2 steaks at the Golden Corral one time, okay maybe more then once. I'm just starving all the time. People I work with are complaining I am making them fat eating all the time.
So can your cholesterol be too low? Is this a problem or a good thing? |

Can your cholesterol level be too low?

Are you currently eating at Golden Corral?
Sometimes those with CD have low cholesterol levels simple due to the fact that they are not absorbing properly. Once their villi heal [and they start absorbing properly again], the levels should go back up. Have you had any followup Celiac testing done? Docs will check for dietary compliance. Maybe you still have some absorption issues? That might explain constant hunger and low cholesterol readings. _________________ Al

This topic is interesting. I'm going to see the doctor in October. My lab tests from 3 1/2 years ago (and before I knew anything about celiac and gluten intolerance) show the following:
Cholesterol 94
Triglyceride 39
I was also anemic. My recent EnteroLab results show severe malabsorption. Hmmm...I wonder if my cholesterol will go up as I heal?! |

Definitely an interesting topic. My dad's cholesterol was always very low, at least under 100, as low as 64 in the last several years. I'd bet a lot of money that he was gluten intolerant, although he would never see a doctor about his GI problems. Mine has always been in the 90's, but I haven't had it checked since I've been GF. I'll definitely be curious to see how it changes. _________________ Jen

Very interesting! My cholesterol (and blood pressure) have always been very low too. I'm not sure if it's hereditary or because of the GF thing. _________________ Ostrich :>--O==={
